Matt Hampton Lose The Training Wheels

Matt A. Hampton, Executive Director

Matt recently became Executive Director of Lose The Training Wheels (LTTW) after 11 years of service as Vice President of Finance for High Touch, Inc., a technology firm in Wichita, Ks. Matt was a member of the original steering committee that directed the formation of LTTW, Inc. and assisted the newly formed organization in achieving 501(c)3 status. From 2007 until his appointment as Executive Director, he served as a member of the Board of Directors and the corporation's Secretary/Treasurer. Matt has also served the organization by administering and overseeing the organizations camp operations since 2007.

In 2006, Matt became involved with LTTW when he organized the first LTTW camp in Wichita, Ks. where his son, Jacob, learned to ride a bike at the age of 12.

  
Lisa Ruby Lose The Training Wheels

Lisa Ruby, Director of Operations

As Director of Operations for Lose The Training Wheels, Lisa brings over 16 years of management and business experience.  After a successful career in information technology, including starting and managing a successful consulting business for six years, Lisa chose to change career paths to work for and with children and found her way to adapted recreation where she has worked for the past seven years.  Lisa believes that play is the purest form of therapy the world has to offer, and physical play the most beneficial for body, mind and soul.  Lisa devotes her time and effort to delivering the highest quality program, working to ensure that everyone involved with Lose The Training Wheels - staff, participants, families, volunteers, hosts and partners - learn and teach in a supportive community.

  
Bill Rupp, Board Member

Bill Rupp, Board of Directors, Chairman

Bill currently serves as President of Meyer Natural Beef in Loveland, Co. He joined the Board of Directors of LTTW in 2007. Bill also serves on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Kansas and Signaldemand, a business that has created a software application to employ mathematics and science in the optimization of commodity pricing. Bill was instrumental in creating a partnership between Cargill and the Lose The Training Wheels camp in Wichita and has been a camp volunteer for two years as well as a passionate supporter and planning committee member for the Wichita camp. Bill’s background as a business leader and champion for LTTW is a valuable resource to the organization.

  
John Lord, Chairman of the board

John Lord, Board of Directors

John is a Senior Vice President and the Director of Operations for the Defense Group of Science Applications International Corporation in McLean, Virginia.

After taking his daughter Libby to two separate LTTW camps during the summer of 2006 where she successfully learned to ride a bike, John founded the national Lose The Training Wheels organization. Working with Dr. Richard Klein, he created an initial steering committee made up of individuals from around the country and incorporated LTTW in Virginia. John, working with Executive Director Matt Hampton, led the company's efforts to achieve non-profit 501(c)3 status, and he has been an active Board member since its creation.

  
Dr. Tammy Burt, Vice President

Dr. Tammy Burt, Board Advisor

Dr. Burt is an Assistant Professor of Physical Education at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Her specialization is in adapted physical education/activity. Dr. Burt became involved with LTTW during her doctoral studies at The Ohio State University. Her research involved the use of adapted bicycles on the learning of conventional cycling skills by children with disabilities (Burt, 2007). Dr. Burt regularly consults with LTTW leadership and assists in orientation and training for LTTW staff.

  
Mark Emery Lose The Training Wheels

Mark H. Emery, Board Advisor

Mark H. Emery is Administrator for After-School Programs for Fairfax County Public Schools and oversees the development and implementation of after-school programs in 27 middle schools.  He is a Board Member of the Fairfax Partnership for Youth and is the former Director of the Fairfax County After-School Network.  He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Fairfax County Boys’ and Girls’ Club.  He was Project Director of the Extended Learning and Development Project for the Council of Chief State School Officers.  He also served as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Fairfax County School Board.  Dr. Emery has retired from the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC after 25 years as a Research Physicist.  He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Iowa.
